Today was Olivia & Violet's first day of kindergarten at Robbinsdale Spanish Immersion school. We enjoyed having breakfast together; I made baked oatmeal and toast. The girls chose their outfits the night before, so it was pretty easy getting dressed, despite Olivia changing her mind about her skirt. They were very excited to wear shirts with Spanish on them. Violet's blue shirt said "paz" which means "peace," and Olivia's said "i vamos a bailar, bailar, bailar" which means "I go dancing, dancing, dancing." Of course I had to take many pictures before we left for school. :) I dropped them off on their first day, as requested by the school. The staff were so friendly as we walked into the school; everyone wished us "Buenos dias!" The girls were in room #1 with Senora Laoyza. When we entered the room, we found their spots at the table and their hooks for their backpacks. They started coloring, then it was time for me to say goodbye! Violet had no problem with me leaving, she barely looked up from her coloring sheet as I gave her a kiss. Olivia had a harder time; she cried and clung to me a bit, but eventually let me go. As I waved goodbye from the door, I was both happy and sad; my girls are definitely ready for school, which made things a little easier!
Olivia & Violet are in half-day kindergarten from 9:20 to 11:50, then they go to Adventure Club child care for the rest of the day, which is on-site at the school. I picked them up early around 3:00 today since it was their first day, and they were very excited to see me! The Adventure Club director said they had a great day, but they kept asking when I was coming because I said I would be there early. :) I was anxious to hear all about their day! They said they had a lot of fun...Violet's favorite part was going outside on the playground, and Olivia's favorite part was having chocolate milk at lunch. :) They said they couldn't understand what their teacher was saying because it was in Spanish, but she must have got her point across on several things because they told me about some of the classroom rules. They also said they learned the "Hokey Pokey" in Spanish! Olivia summed it up by saying: "Let me tell you all about our day. First, we colored; then, we sat on the rug and learned some Spanish; then, we went outside; then, we had free play; then, we learned some more Spanish; then, we went to Adventure Club; then, we went to lunch; then, we had quiet time; then, we went outside again; then, someone was reading us a story; then, you picked us up." Sounds like a pretty good day! When we got home, I had a little oatmeal raisin cookie surprise waiting for them:

They are VERY excited to ride the bus tomorrow. We saw it go by this morning, and they now know two other girls who will be on their bus, so they can't wait. I was able to arrange my work schedule so I can put them on the bus at 8:47 each morning. I am looking forward to spending the mornings with them!
