Honduras dance

This past Tuesday, Olivia and Violet performed a traditional Honduras dance at their school's cultural assembly. There were two boys from their class that they were partnered with, plus about ten other kids from grades K-3. Their teacher assistant (TA) is from Honduras, so she taught the kids the dance and even brought traditional dress from Honduras. I came early to help the kids get dressed. Violet and her dance partner Ian were both pretty nervous about dancing in front of an audience, but they all did great! I was very proud of them. Although it was a boy/girl dance...didn't particularly like seeing my little girls dancing with boys already! :) They were so cute though, it was fun to watch. Here are a few pictures I took before the assembly started. Violet insisted on wearing her Darth Vader shirt underneath her dress-gotta love her!

movie fun

Last Saturday night, we went to a drive-in movie theater about 35 minutes from our house. Jamie and I had been there once before but it was a new experience for our girls. It is the only drive-in left that is somewhat close to us so we thought the girls would have fun trying it out. We got there at about 7:30 and the place was already almost packed! We parked in the back row on the grass, where the girls were able to run around with some of the other kids. We set our chairs up in the back of our truck, facing the screen, and tuned in our portable radio to the proper station so we could hear the movie dialogue. They played three movies in a row on the big screen; the girls insisted that they could make it through them all (ha). The girls were most excited to see "Cinderella" but unfortunately that one was playing last! The first movie started after dark at about 9:00. It was the new Avengers movie, which was almost 2 1/2 hours long! Before the movie started, Violet informed me that she no longer likes princesses. She likes Star Wars, Avengers and minions (from the movie "Despicable Me"). I was a little sad about them growing out of the princess stage! The girls both made it through the first movie, but were pretty tired when it was done at 11:30 so we headed home. They were bummed out about not making it through the other two movies...maybe next time! We had a really fun time and enjoyed the classic experience.

Ready for the movie to start!

may the fourth be with you

Monday (May 4th) was Star Wars Day: "May the Fourth Be With You." We took the girls to the Minnesota Twins baseball game, where they celebrated with Star Wars Night. Between innings there was Star Wars trivia, the players were holding light sabers instead of baseball bats in their at bat photos, and there were other Star Wars activities going on. Olivia and Violet were giddy with excitement after meeting several Star Wars characters! Apparently I don't know my characters well enough though, I called a Jawa an Ewok and was immediately corrected. We walked around for two innings looking for Darth Vader, but we were not able to find him so the girls were a little bummed out about that. All in all, it was a fun night! And yes, we did spend some time actually watching the game!

We also had a lot of fun this past weekend. On Friday, May 1st, we celebrated my nephew William's 6th birthday at Pump It Up. All of the Thronson cousins were there, which was really fun! The kids all had fun jumping around on the inflatables and going down a super fast slide. I raced Violet through the obstacle course, I was trying to go so fast that I ended up crashing into my sister Terri at the bottom of the slide! And Violet still beat me! It was a fun time.

Happy birthday William!

On Saturday morning, May 2nd, we went out on Lake Minnetonka with my sister Nikki and her family. They just bought a boat so we were happy they let us tag along to try it out! The weather was just beautiful so we had fun cruising around and looking at all of the fancy houses.

The afternoon of May 2nd, we celebrated my brother-in-law Aaron's 40th birthday. They had a party at their house, we had a great time initiating the set of bean bag boards that Jamie made, which Terri gave to Aaron as his birthday gift.

On April 25th, we celebrated my niece Claire's 6th birthday. She had a pirate themed party at Arrowwood in Alexandria. We had a great meal, opened presents and then had fun in the Arrowwood waterpark. Everyone got a kick out of these adhesive mustaches!!!
