girls just want to have fun

We had a lot of fun with the girls this past weekend. On Saturday after it rained, they had a blast jumping in all of the puddles. They were decked out in rain coats and rain boots and were covered in mud by the time they were done. On Sunday, we rode our bikes down to the beach near our house. Olivia and Violet had so much fun playing in the water and sand. They were amazed by all of the boats that drove by, and by all of the dogs that came to swim in the water. We ate lunch at the beach before heading home. It reminded me of when my parents brought my sisters and me to the beach when we were growing up. My mom used to make us peanut butter on graham crackers as a beach snack. Violet talked to Granny Thronson later in the day, and said (in her own words): "I went to the beach. I stepped on mommy's sand castle." This was certainly true, but I cracked up because that was what she remembered the most from our beach trip!

On Sunday afternoon, we put together the girls' scooters that we gave them for their last birthday. They rode them down the park trail near our house, and actually did fairly well with keeping their balance. We went to the park, and got caught in a downpour. We had to run home in the rain!

Our garden is doing pretty well. Radishes are almost ready to be picked. Cucumbers are coming up, and we have several hardy tomato plants. Lettuce is coming up now too. Beans and peas would be doing well if the rabbits would quit eating them. We are having trouble getting onions to grow, which is a bummer because they are Jamie's favorite garden food. We are also having trouble with peppers, but we hope to turn that around. Hopefully we will be eating radishes by the weekend, the first crop out of our garden!
