july 4th weekend

We had a fun July 4th. We drove up that day and went to the parade in Evansville. The girls had a blast running after candy! They were also excited to see Grandpa Thronson and Uncle Aaron marching in the color guard. It was a hot afternoon, but luckily we found a spot in the shade!

Red, white and blue, and ready for the parade!

Olivia: "Look how much candy I got!"
Violet: "Woah! A strawberry candy!"
Good job in the parade, Grandpa!
After the parade, we went down to the Evansville school park area for some activities. There was a petting zoo, horse rides, dunk tank and other activities. The girls loved the animals of course! They wanted to go on a horse ride, and they insisted that they didn't need anybody to walk beside them. :)

After that, we headed out to the Suchy farm. Joey had some daytime fireworks that he fired off for us. The girls' favorite were the ones that would shoot up in a tube, then eject out a parachute guy. They would run all over the yard, trying to catch the parachute when it finally fell back to the ground. They each ended up catching one so they were pretty excited! We also had a minor fireworks mishap. A spark flew into the box of fireworks! Jamie was the first one to see it, so he yelled "Everybody, run!" We all took off running while all of the fireworks in the box went off. The box smoked and smoked, and eventually started on fire. Luckily, the box contained daytime fireworks, so there weren't any big ones in there. Phew! After that, we roasted marshmallows in the fire. The girls also spent time in the playhouse that Grandpa Suchy built.

Violet also discovered that she has a loose tooth; she is nervous but excited!!

On Saturday morning, we went over to the Thronson farm. The girls had a great time with their cousins, and there was so much to do! Ride on the rope swing, go down waterslides, ride the neighbor's horse, have water fights (the girls loved the water shooters), eat root beer floats, ride four wheeler, and more! We loaded up for a hayride, but as soon as we started down the road, it unfortunately started to rain so we turned around and headed back. Olivia got to drive the tractor with Grandpa though, so she was pretty excited about that. After it stopped raining, Violet helped Grandpa unload some firewood so we could have a bonfire. We also had a nail-driving competition: first the men (Jamie won), then the women (I won), then the kids (Emma won). The girls had a fun day!
